Wilbur E. Flickinger, 97, of LaPorte, Indiana, died at 6:25 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2005 in the LaPorte Hospital Continuing Care Unit.
A private family service will be held at noon on Saturday May 7, at Cutler Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Ohime officiating. Public visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery.
Wilbur was born January 4, 1908 in Crete, Illinois to the late Albert & Clara (Brousseau) Flickinger. On November 2, 1957, in Alma, Arkansas, he married Zula M. Williams who survives.
Also surviving is sister-in-law Janet Sue (Hank) Birkholz of LaPorte; niece Gay Lyn Birkholz; and nephews Michael (Debra) and David (Martha) Birkholz. A sister, Esther Hornbeck preceded him in death.
Wilbur had worked as Chief of Security for KOP during WW II and the Korean War. He had also worked as chief of Security for General Electirc in Evendale, Ohio. He had served as LaPorte County Inspector and was the LaPorte Water Department Superintendent for 2 terms. He was also a former Indiana Excise Department Agent.
He was a charter member of the LaPorte Co. Democratic Civic Club and had served as LaPorte Co. Democratic Party Chairman for 6 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Scottish Rite of South Bend. He was also a former LaPorte City Councilman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the LaPorte First Baptist Church or the Shriners Children's Hospital.
