William Jesse Dare, 72, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
William was born in South Bend, IN, on December 13, 1950 to J. Ward and Naida Lucille (Wharton) Dare.
On August 28, 1971 in Mishawaka, IN, he married Jean Schmidt who survives. Also surviving are his children, Amy (Rob) Manuszak of Edwardsburg, MI, Lisa (Tom) Thresh of Greenfield, and James (Celeste) Dare of La Porte; grandchildren, Emily and Noah Manuszak, Owen, Alex and Elliot Thresh, Jacey, Jay, Jared and Jimmy Dare, and Trenton, Chloe and Connor Haines; siblings, Jean Patterson and J. Ward Dare, father-in-law, James Schmidt of Mishawaka; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Norma Schmidt.
William served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a planner for over 30 years at NIPSCO. He was a member of Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church. William enjoyed beekeeping and was a member of the Michiana Beekeepers Association for 35 years.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating. Military honors will follow the service.
A time of visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
