William Marshall Gray, 84, LaPorte, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (June 26, 2004) at Fountainview Terrace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, LaPorte.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday, July 5, at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. Phillip Crubaugh officiating. Cremation will follow the service, with a private family burial Tuesday, July 6, at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the service Monday, July 5, at the funeral home.
Mr. Gray was born Feb. 26, 1920, in LaPorte to Eben & Nellie (Ecker) Gray. On April 24, 1944, he married Charlotte Doris Klatt, who died Oct. 22, 1998.
Survivors include four daughters, Loretta (James) Fanselow, Marcia (David) Henning and Phyllis (Thomas) Roach, all of LaPorte, and Delores (Dale) Burmeister, Michigan City; four sons, Charles (Cathy) Gray, Allegan, Mich., Darrell (Karen) Gray, Avondale, Ariz., Gerald (Becky) Gray, White Pigeon, Mich., and Jeffrey (Regina) Gray, Phoenix; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Bird, Sarasota, Fla., and John Gray, Malvern, Ark.; and one sister, Cheryl Godsby, Malvern, Ark.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Gray was a New York Blower welder, retiring in November 1981. He then became a security guard. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps Company 2582 of Kendallville, Ind., Lincoln Township Volunteer Fire Department, Boy Scouts Troop 39 and the Teamsters Union. He belonged to First Church of God in LaPorte and Tucson, Ariz. He loved children and enjoyed painting, drawing and wood carving.
