William "Bill" Heller

William "Bill" Hugh Heller, 69, of La Porte, lost his battle with Parkinson's Disease on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Brentwood.

William was born in Hammond, IN, on December 28, 1946 to Wendell E. Sr. and Clara Margaret (Pictor) Heller.

On August 23, 1969 in Hammond, IN, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Claire Spencer who preceded him in death on June 18, 2016.

Bill received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1970 and a Masters Degree in 1973 in Elementary Administration from Indiana State University.

He started his long teaching career at Vigo County School Corp, in Terre Haute, teaching 5th and 6th grade from 1970-1973. He then moved to Principal of North Knox Central Elementary, and then North Knox East Elementary and Junior High from 1973-1977, in Bicknell, IN. For the next 26 years, Bill worked for La Porte Community School Corp. He was Principal at Lincoln Elementary for 6 years, and then taught 4th and 6th grade for the next 20 years at Riley Elementary, Crichfield Elementary, and Hailmann Elementary. He retired from teaching in 2003.

William is survived by two sons, Jeffrey of Indianapolis and Douglas (Heather) of La Porte; two sisters, Susan (James) Fay of Hobart and Mary Lee of Fort Worth, Texas; and sister-in-law, Carla (Don) Bellew of Phoenix, Arizona.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; sister, Diane Gill; and brother, Wendell "Corky". He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

William was a member of La Porte Presbyterian Church.

A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 with Pastor Sally Wicks officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
