William J. Meinhard, age 91, of La Porte, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Franciscan Hospice Communities.
He was born on July 12, 1924 the son of John and Carrye (Kuntz) Meinhard. On December 5, 1952 in Geneva, Illinois, he married Patricia Lindgren, she preceded him in death in 2010.
Surviving are four children, David (Kathy) Meinhard of Brunswick, GA, Stephan (Fran) Meinhard of Gresham, OR, Penny (Casey) Meyer, and Jeff (Gwen) Meinhard of La Porte, IN; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Nancy Smith.
William served his country honorably during WWII in the United States Navy and retired from Teledyne Casting Service after over 30 years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in La Porte where he was active for many years and sang in the choir. He also served with the Salvation Army and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. William enjoyed fishing, hunting, and Saturday morning breakfasts at Louie’s with his friends from Teledyne. His wit equipped him with a pun or humorous anecdote for any occasion.
A cremation committal has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 1-2:30 pm prior to the time of service at the church.
