William "Bill" Edward Schultz, 84, of La Porte, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Brentwood in La Porte.
Bill was born in La Porte, IN, on April 28, 1932 to Lawrence Wm. and Mary (Clayton) Schultz.
On May 23, 1953, he married his wife of 63 years and the love of his life, Arlene (Orzech) Schultz who preceded him in death on August 31, 2016. Surviving are his beloved children, Rebecca (Clifford) Sheeler of La Porte and William (Darla) Schultz of La Porte; grandchildren, Amanda (Michael) Rose of La Porte, Rachel (Andy) Drake of Hobart, Kevin (Jessica) Sheeler of La Porte, Kristen (T.J.) Reed of Westfield, IN, Jenna Schultz of La Porte, Braylyn and Brock Schultz of La Porte; 3 great-grandchildren, Anna Drake, Benjamin Drake, and Scarlett Jo Reed; brothers, Clayton (Norma) Schultz of La Porte and Jon (Mary) Schultz of La Porte; and sister, Mary Jo (Dixie) Hornsby of Connersville, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Stephanie Schultz; and great-granddaughter, Ruby Grace Drake.
Bill served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked for GTE/Verizon telephone company for 30 plus years. He was Commander at Skwiat Post 451 American Legion, Michigan City, and a member of the Honor Guard for many years. Bill was very patriotic and he loved his country. He enjoyed golfing, yard work, and the outdoors. He loved spending the winter months in Florida and being in the sun and on the beach with his many friends. He also loved playing cards and dice, watching "his boys" play baseball, dog sitting for Tyler, and most of all, Bill loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren who were the light of his life.
Special thanks to Kathleen Dudeck, Erin Miller, Carol Pacione and Tammy Ruminski for helping to take such good care of Bill in the last several months. All of your love and compassion were a beautiful thing to witness. They are more than caregivers they are honorary members of the Schultz family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 PM on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Roger Ash officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service at the funeral home on Friday.
