William "Bill" Thomas Wood, 65, of La Porte, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at home.
William was born in La Porte, IN, on July 30, 1950. On October 7, 1999, he married Rita Hammons in Cookeville, TN; she survives.
Also surviving are, two children James A. Wood of La Porte, IN and Nicky (Tim) Martin of Fort Wayne, IN; a step-son, Eric Levendoski of La Porte, IN; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Bennett of Cookeville, TN and Leoretta (Robert) Sharp of Woodville, AL; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Kim Wood of Sparta, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Richard and Nellie Fern (Dove) Barger; a son, William Thomas Wood Jr.; and a brother, Phillip Wood.
William attended La Porte Community Schools and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during both Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW, both in La Porte.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 10 AM at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick will officiate and military honors will be conducted.
A cremation committal will take place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Burial will take place at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, IN.
